ABOUT

Serdar Biliş was born in Istanbul where he studied theatre before moving to London to pursue directing. He now works internationally, especially in London and Istanbul. He holds an MA in Theatre Directing from Middlesex University. In London he was invited to the National Theatre Directing Course and was the winner of Channel 4 Director’s award. In the UK he has worked as an associate director at the Arcola Theatre London and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse. His focus has been on developing new plays as well as adapting classics. He is responsible from Drama  and Performing Arts at Zorlu PSM and artistic director for his independent theatre company Pürtelaş theatre. Serdar is currently devoloping a new musical about the iconic figure “Afife Jale” who was the first ever Muslim woman to go up on stage in Istanbul. 
Serdar is also committed to teaching and has been a lecturer at Kadir Has University for the past ten years. He teaches directing for the post graduates and devises projects with the final year acting students. He also has been teaching and directing at Teatro Della Toscano, Scuola di formazione del mestiere dell’attore in Firenze since 2018.
